Seven Deadly Sins: Lust

Description

Well, after the first sin – Wrath - my series of artworks “Seven Deadly Sins” are increased now by the second one - Lust (lat. Luxuria). It was a long and harassing work to show vulgar human vice, and, unfortunately, I was not sure that I’ve coped with ecstasy on girl face at all so, as you see, I’ve closed it by the silk. But she is not the main character so I thought I can do it with a clear conscience.
And now the Lust is before you! His sly face is quite relaxed and it seems he doesn’t pay heed to his seduced victim. Fire behind him is his inward nature, burning the girl’s soul, which is showed as a ribbon of silk. The sculls, the attribute of my series, belong to people who was mostly seized by the Lust, leaved behind him as rubbish.
Enjoy, hope you like it!
Wait for the next Sin.

"Lust" (or Luxuria) is a piece that is about as sensual as you can get. The artists says that they were unsure about the woman's expression and decided to use a veil to slightly cover it. I feel that the expression works but that the veil does a good job of adding more flow and rhythm to it. Both of the figures look natural (or as much as can be in this situation) and fit together well. The sensuality of the painting is enhanced with the softness of the skin and the play of shadows on the man's back and legs and the woman's side. Even the texture of the cloth is handled expertly and move your eye around the entire piece while also making sure you see the deadly effects of Lust's charms, hinted at by the multitudes of skulls. "Lust" is a beautiful painting and shows you both the sexy and sometimes dangerous side of passion.
