Seven Deadly Sins: Sloth by Procrust Seven Deadly Sins: Sloth by Procrust
After two previous sins – Wrath and Lust - my series of artworks “Seven Deadly Sins” are increased now by the third one - Sloth (lat. Acedia). The least dangerous and deadly ex facte. But I suppose I should remind someone, who thinks so, about criminal negligence leadind to unfortunate results and very often to the death of many people.
Anyway I find sloth a disgusting sin. That's why I used green and yellow colours here on this piece. As you see his clothes are transparent and fluid as glue - this is the substance of Sloth. Also he carries mandolin... hmm... to entertain himself... I don't know, I always associate laziness with medieval musicians and minstrels)

Hope you like it! The next sin... let it be a surprise!)

PS: Special thanks to Astrkv [link] for assistance and support!

Totally amazing. On a personal note, I don't like the fact that playing music is associated with lazziness, although that's not your fault. I guess people historically do not consider playing music as "real work". Even in stories like "The Three Little Pigs" and the one with the "Grasshopper and the Ant", the musicians are always portrayed as lazy.

I love the details, like the hairs on the legs. ^_^
Though I have to say that playing an instrument is in my opinion not a sign for sloth. I mean if you are playing then you are active, maybe even composing a new piece. But this is only my personal opinion of the symbol and has nothing to to with the art itself.

Actually sloth can be very dangerous.
Lazy thinking, not thinking or looking for the truth can lead a nation to ruin. Why bother thinking when that politician/political party has all the answers?

Apathy which is connected to sloth means people will not bother to do anything to make the world better. Things just get worse and worse and no one will do anything.

Anyway, thats my 2 cents and this looks great.

I love your series its awesome. I do have to agree with ZombiiFiish that he could be a bit dirtier and that a musician of all walks of life work very very hard and do alot of starving before finally become noticed.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with next =)

I enjoy and definitely appreciate the style and technique for this piece (those drapes are great!), but I'd debate with you on the portrayal (if you don't mind! ^^; )

Firstly, he's very handsome, and while that's all well and good, he's a sin. And, as you said, a disgusting sin. So I'd associate sloth as being more dirty (unless you were going with the irony thing here) and generally more disgusting-looking. Also (just kind of blabbing here), medieval minstrels (and even today's musicians) generally work very hard, seeing as they have to shmooze real well and play well to be sucessful. Just putting in my two cents--everyone likes comments, right? ;)

But I don't mean to offend, really. I do really like the piece and how it's done. If it's offended, just disregard. ^^;

I like the concept around your piece, not only a terrific job but also an explanation of why you thought of this sin this way.
Congrats!!
